The Hack Job

The title could easily apply to either:
  • The tree field
  • Thomas's trim that I gave his bangs this morning
Last week, the farm finished up the clearing of one of the sections in our yard...just as one of the friendly folks from ORCAA (the clean air agency for our area) just happened to be driving by.  I never realized that with marrying Jonathan would bring an additional wealth of knowledge in regulations regarding residential vs. agricultural fires, a child who evidently LOVES fires (as evidenced by his wake up call to us the next morning from his crib: "Un-coo Jerry!  Go to fire!"), and what would become sadness for me at the vision of the cleared field.  It really pales in comparison when I remember that 2 or 3 more sections will be finished out in front of our house next year...so this is just mental preparation for me.

Granted, it is MUCH easier to find Maggie or Thomas if they run off into the fields, so I've got that going for me.

Our house, from above. This image is a few years old, because the douglas fir trees along the top were seedlings when it was taken, and they are now about 4' high.

Other random facts:
We no longer grow trees on the hillside (as it shows in the pic).  The section that was cleared is highlighted in green, and the 2-3 sections below it will go next year.  There are about a dozen other field sections in different areas of the tree farm not pictured, and owned by other family members.  They have mostly nobles on them, with several beautiful noble fir fields that will be ready in the next year or so.

As for Thomas's hack job, I am very grateful that he has my hair texture.  Curly, fluffy, easy to work with hair that if I trim a bit too close to his scalp (above his right eyebrow, for example), it just curls up and can still look a bit natural.

At least that's what I tell myself.

And after he burned a bunch of energy in the fields, there's no better way to finish it off than in the warm sunshine...splashing through the mud.

Little boys are the bomb.  Especially on the farm.
