In great part to Jamie Oliver and his food revolution, food is on the brain right now. Thanks to the awesome deal at Costco for the Vitamix roadshow, and my birthday present (early) from Mom and Dad...there is an incredibly awesome new machine in our kitchen.
Thomas and I drove back up to the Gig Harbor Costco yesterday, because that's where the roadshow is right now. In less than 20 minutes, we had fresh berry sorbet, a smoothie, hot chicken tortilla soup, and pistachio ice cream. All from the same machine. And all with fresh, healthy ingredients.
It's like a 'whole food processor'. Processes everything up -- from fruits to veggies to all kinds of foods. You can make it as chunky or as smooth as you want. In the neverending pursuit to improve the food we eat, I love the thought of adding in veggies and other goodies in a different way. It isn't inexpensive, but it's an awesome investment in our health.
When we got home, Thomas and I popped the Instructional DVD into the player, and learned about all the ways we can use it. It's so much more than just smoothies -- but this was a good place to start this morning.
This morning, Jonathan wasn't as excited as I was to try it out. He didn't want anything with milk or orange juice. Thomas wasn't fond of the idea of trying out kale and spinach together.
Until he tried it.
And it was good.
I made two drinks this morning. Not wanting to go into Vitamix Overload by making 25 drinks today "just to see what they're like".
The Blueberry Banana Smoothie | frozen blueberries (thank you Costco for an awesome, awesome deal), frozen bananas, 1/2 cup of water, kale, spinach, carrots and a bit of agave nectar
Jonathan's response? "Wow, that's really not bad." (A big compliment for what he calls "ambiguous foods". He doesn't want to eat anything that he can't tell what it is.) Thomas killed his smoothie (in a snack cup with a sippy lid) and wanted more.
Up next?
The Orange Banana Smoothie | one peeled orange, one banana, kale, cabbage, carrots and a bit of agave nectar
Smooth and yummy. I refilled the Wee Ski's little sippy cup and he carried it around like it was a Starbucks drink.
And seriously, how can you NOT enjoy kale & cabbage served in a martini glass in the morning? :)

We love our vitamix. We use it everyday! It is well worth the investment. We have a soy protien that we put in every smoothie, I can get you the name if you'd like. We buy all our frozen berries at costco and we can now finish a bag of their fresh spinach! :) Oh and our girls love them too! ~The Inverso Family
