Ode to the Babycook

Thomas has entered the world of soft foods. Though he still has no teeth that have broken through...we're foraging ahead. He's now in the 75th percentile for length (yea - up from 50th!) and still in the 25th percentile for weight (how can he be my child?!?)...he'll be starting soft foods in addition to nursing.

A while back, several of my photog clients raved about the Beaba Babycook...and after researching prepackaged baby food (both the nutrient side + the cost), this was the way I wanted to go. I say "I" because while I'm positive I discussed it with Jonathan...maybe I forgot. This conversation took place two hours after I finished:

"What are you doing?"
"Blogging about making Thomas's organic baby food."
"Making it? I think we should do a cost-benefit analysis of the time & energy in making it versus just buying it."
"Well, it's already in the freezer and Thomas already had some."

And the dishes were already clean. :)

While packing for Lake Chelan today, I pulled out the Babycook. On my way home today, Thomas and I picked up organic sweet potatoes, zucchini, and apples. I was hoping for squash, but couldn't find it.

The Babycook steams, purees, and can reheat frozen baby food - all in the same bowl. Super easy to use. Great to clean, and easy to run without worrying about heating the nutrients out of the food - because it stops steaming when the food is ready.

Here's the bounty:

I had another apple and sweet potato, but didn't want the zucchini to be jealous that it was on its own.

Now, for the official opinion. Judge Wee Ski should be disqualified because at first, he was much more excited about eating the tray on his high chair. And seriously...why do boys get eyelashes like this? But I digress.

Organic food? Screw that. Bring on the plastic.

...until he saw the warm sweet potatoes.

Jury was out for a bit, deliberating.

Not impressed, until...

...he could feed himself.

This proved to be extremely messy. If he wants to get it all over his face, in his hair and his ear...well, better than breast milk like that.

But he was happy the whole time.

And after his vaccines today, I'll take happy & messy over crying & feverish any day of the week.

The chickens were pleased because they got some of the sweet potato skins.

No eggs yet. I told them they'll get no further love from the blog until they start producing. They were not pleased anymore.

They can deal.

Back to the baby food...

This is just organic food bliss for me. :)

Things are frozen for now, and will be packed up for the vacation...starting with sweet potatoes, then to zucchini, then to applesauce and maybe avocado!
