Our favorites: Burger Joints

Of the random conversations we've had over the past few days...

Here's the compilation of our favorite burger dives (which they usually are) for super fabulous hamburger goodness. In no particular order...

Mrs. Beesley's Burgers • Vader, WA
Right off Exit 59 (going north, where the big "EAT" sign is). The meat's ground fresh every day, they have an awesome secret sauce (a mixture of mayo, mustard, chopped onion, sweet relish and celery seed), and the shakes are to die for. This is the spot that I loved to stop at when coming back from girls' retreats at Anderson Lodge, or anytime coming back up from Portland. The catch? They don't take anything but local checks and cash. :)

Eagan's Drive-In • Olympia and Tumwater, WA
Jonathan always calls this "Big Tom's" because the burgers are Big Tom and Little Tom....and it used to be named Big Tom's. :) Jonathan's favorites? Shakes and tater tots. They've got tots.

Frisko Freeze • Tacoma, WA
Off 6th Ave, right near Tacoma General. Favorites include the chickenwich and the cheeseburger. Best tip I learned from Michael G? Have Frisko's number (253-272-6843) stored in your cell phone. Call ahead to order - when you get there, you get to smile at everyone waiting for their food. Yours is already ready. :)

Maid-Rite • West Des Moines, IA
Made-to-order loose meat sandwiches. Always worth a stop when we fly back to see Grandma and Grandpa. From one of Mike's football coaches at PLU, we learned that you can order the meat frozen to-go, and you can fly it home with you. They make the burgers, fries, and onion rings from scratch. They're expanding, but I think it's going to be a while before they reach the west coast. :)

What are we missing from the list?

I was just going to say Dicks...there's a mom and pop place here in Federal Way, several in fact. one is called KC Drive In...(oddly enough, it's not a drive in...) and Burger Express...so many of my high school friends worked there! :) Both in Federal Way!

I will second Amy's Pick Quick, and add:

Clark's Restaurant in Artic, WA (http://www.clarksrestaurant.com/)

I know many people would vote for Burgerville (Portland/SW Washington) and Burgermaster (Seattle).

And I'm with Jonathan: I call Eagan's "Big Tom's."

Pic Qwick is bomb! I grew up going to that place when it was a field in the back lot and not the Nissan dealership... awesome shakes and burgers. Also, in Ellensburg- the Tav. Burgers stand alone there- no fries unless you order them on the side. So good and so cheap too! -Lindsay

OOOhhh I forgot about Ellensburg! You are right! Kat (who still has Sir Mix A Lot in her head....me and kid sensation, at home away from home, in the black benz limo with the cellular phone...)

Lakeside Drive-In on the main street in Lake Chelan...the only "fast food" place right in the city with awesome "bucket-o--fries" and great chicken ranch sandwiches!
