ponderings

"The person who is caught up in the whirlpool of life can never extricate another from its whirling waters. Martha, who was busy about many things, was not as good at advising others as Mary, who sat in quiet and contemplation.

As Thomas Aquinas so wisely put it: Contemplata aliis tradere - we deliver to others those things upon which we had meditated."

nothing this week convicted me as much as this quote from fulton sheen. it'd been nearly three weeks since i'd been home for more than a few hours in a row. the last ten days had been an emotional roller coaster for a number of reasons.

there were moments that my first reaction to things wasn't one i was most proud of - it was a bit of 'shelley with her filter off', saying exactly what i was thinking at that moment, something you most often see in cranky, old people. not my best moments. :)

only when i found myself in front of the Eucharist did things slow down, and calm was restored.

i decided to spend most of this weekend away from the hustle and bustle of normal life. i turned off the blackberry and gave it a break too. giving myself time to contemplate a bit more, and to find peace. it makes me happy. ♥

"I know I wouldn’t be able to work one week if it were not for the continual force coming from Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament. In our society we begin our day with Mass and Holy Communion and we end it with one full hour of Adoration.... All of us know that unless we believe and can see Jesus in the appearance of bread on the altar, we will not be able to see Him in the distressing disguise of the poor. Therefore, these two loves are but one in Jesus."

"The greatest thing in the world that you can do is to encourage others and yourself to participate in perpetual adoration of the Blessed Sacrament. It is the real presence of Jesus on earth. The blessings that come upon you and your family will be phenomenal."

In a world where there is so much noise, so much bewilderment, there is a need for silent adoration of Jesus concealed in the Host. Be assiduous in the prayer of adoration and teach it to the faithful. It is a source of comfort and light, particularly to those who are suffering.

Nice new page there, Shelley!

(...and pretty impressive getting the Pope and a saint to comment on your blog!)

Perhaps it's all the six degrees of Ryder. I hear he runs in a pretty good crowd.

You probably know him too!
