Welcoming John Paul Emeric

We welcomed our second son, John Paul Emeric Sprouffske, this afternoon at 2:14 pm. He's beautiful...and we are all resting and recovering. The Wee Ski 1.0 is having a sleepover at Grandma and Grandpa's. Photos and more details to come!

In the meantime, a little about his birth name.

Just as the road to naming Thomas wasn't easy, the path to the Wee Ski 2.0's name was finally decided last night, on May 1, 2011.  Jonathan had full naming rights to this child, and he blessed me and our family with a lifelong decision by honoring Blessed John Paul the Second with the first name to our child: John Paul.

The Wee Ski 2.0 was due on May 1 -- this year, both the feast of Divine Mercy and the date of Pope John Paul II's beatification, where he was given the title of "Blessed" after the confirmation of a French nun's miraculous healing from Parkinson's...his first miracle.

John Paul's middle name, Emeric, is a name close to the Sprouffske family's heart.  When Grandpa Ski was a novice in the monastery at St. Martin's, he was given the name "Brother Emeric".  Years later, Jonathan was confirmed at the same monastery (where he went to college), and chose the name Emeric.   Both St. Emeric and his father, St. Stephen, were canonized together in the year 1083.

The second page of the layout is very similar to Thomas's page in his book.

But I love that there's so much family history in it, and I wanted John Paul's book to have that as well.

You can click on the pages to read the journaling -- it will bring up a new window with the pages larger.

Welcome to the world, John Paul Emeric.
