So excited to share the final version of this year's Christmas mix! It's a good mix of old + new, well known + a bit more obscure.
A bit of history
This is actually the 5th annual edition -- dating back in 2004. The only year I skipped was the 2007 - when our wedding was 4 days after Christmas and we were pulling together our wedding mix. Starting in 2006, I began designing them to match my Christmas card for each year. I know, freakishly Type A. So I suppose this is a sneak peek at this year's card as well. :)
I set up a playlist in January each year, and add songs to it over the year as I come across them. The last song added? Lindsay shared it with me - O Holy Night by Anuna. The perfect way to end the disc.
Anyway, I love how the mix turned out. And yes, there are two versions of Silent Night. I just couldn't choose - they are both so beautiful. How can you go wrong with Matt Maher or Priscilla Ahn?

i think the christmas shoes song is my favorite...beautiful story. makes me tear up. New Song is the group who originally sang it. They made a little movie of it too...
Christmas in the Northwest - Brenda Kutz White
When my family first moved to WA in the Late 80's I heard this song that first Christmas and now the season is not complete with out hearing it on the radio or playing it at home. - Teri
My choice is a hokey one. I love "Christmas in Killarney" by Bing Crosby. It reminds me of my mom. John Redmond wrote the song, and he was a friend of my mom's family. The song always reminds me of McEntee family Christmases with Bing on the turntable.
My Favorite is "Baby it's Cold outside" But mostly because my husband and I Sing our own version back and forth to eachother.
Yay for Christmas time!!!
Ok Shelley, one of my favorite Christmas songs is "Mary Did You Know". I'm so bad though cuz I don't even know if that's the official name, & I'm horrible with knowing which artist! But there ya go! ;) Love that song, especially now that I'm a mom it helps me to identify with everything through the eyes & emotions of Mary. :)
My favorite Christmas song is Grown up Christmas List by Amy Grant, but my favorite Christmas video is Its about the Cross by Go Fish. You should watch it on Youtube and tell me what you think. Another favorite of mine is Christmas with a Capital C by Go Fish. All are very wonderful Christmas Songs
I LOVE "Here I Am Lord" by The Vandals. Part Catholic Hymn, Part SoCal Ska... Love it!! Happy Birthday, Baby Jesus!
What a great idea!
Little Drummer Boy (Bing Crosby) has probably always been my favorite. Winter Song by Sara Bareilles & Ingrid Michaelson is currently my favorite.
I love "Mary Did You Know" also! It really hit home when I was 8 months pregnant with Ian...that song would make me cry. And I also love "White Christmas". Really, just about any Chistmas song is good! Did you know that 105.3 has Christmas music on Halloween Day? I love that!
"Manger Throne" off of the City on a Hill Christmas CD, I believe it's Third Day and a couple of other people...it's such an amazing song. I first heard it in college when my church sang it. Love it.
Other favorites (ok you asked for one but I can't help it)
"Oh Holy Night" by Point of Grace
"UP on the Housetop" By Late Tuesday (really all of the cd is great)
New Kid in Town by Keith Whitley. This is on a old Christmas CD I have...and it stops me in my tracks every time I hear it. PS I have the 2005 version and love it...would like the new one:)...Lacey M.
It would be wrong and completely out of character to not vote for Matt Maher. I love "Mary, did you know?"...great song..could only be made better by Matt singing it. :-) Happy Advent Everyone!!
You are amazing, love those lists, lots of good songs. My favorite one each year to listen to and play on piano is "Breath of Heaven" by Amy Grant. So beautiful!!!
So, it's too hard for me to pick just one. I should make an annual Christmas CD in order to accomodate them all. Kind of a Christmas nut, as you know. I think Christmas doesn't start for me till I hear Bing Crosby's White Christmas. I think my family's old, old, LP of that is one of the world's greatest tresures. "O Holy Night" is likely my favorite hymn. So important to me that we had it sung at our wedding (it was Christmas time, so not too weird). I like most versions I hear. My favorite standard is "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas." But this year's top pick, if I can get through it without crying is "Celebrate Me Home," by Kenny Loggins. It feels a little closer to home even though I am so far away.
K. I'm done...
I didn't look above yet, and I sure hope someone else suggested this one ---- It is amazing. I cry when I hear it!
Francesca Battistelli - You're Here
They play it on Spirit 105.3, a lot! And that makes me happy!!!
We are coming down with Mike, Kristine, Avila, Rebecca, Joe, and a few more we pick up along the way ;-) on Saturday!
sad I know but.... All I Want for Christmas Is You by Mariah Carey - the funnest song to sing along to at a holiday party. Happy Holidays!
YEAH...just got home and was hoping you would post this list today! ;)
My all-time favorite singer/song writer is Amy Grant (my first concert back in '81)...I just love her & Michael W. Smith....anyway, I love her Christmas songs the mostess! Grown-up Christmas List is my 2nd fave, but my very fave is Breath of Heaven (Mary's Song)...It makes me cry (happy tears) everytime I hear it and boy, were there water works Dec'05 when I was preggo with little Charlie girl!
Just love your Super Fabulous lists....
~ Kathy (Charlie says "hi" Shelley & Thomas)..oh, Jonathan too!
It has to be almost any version of O Holy Night, but I think my favorite is when I get to sing it with a bunch of other people in church, even though I always tear up and can't make it all the way through!
Jamie Marshall
Christmas Eve (Sarajevo 12/24) by Trans-Siberian Orchestra is one of my favorites.
Did I miss it? My computer is so slow. My favorite Christmas song is Little Drummer Boy. (=
What a hard decision! Aside from MC's "All I Want For Christmas is You" (which I am appalled is not on any of your mixes), my all time favorite is "Baby It's Cold Outside" - the Jessica Simpson/Nick Lachey version. Hahaha. Just kidding. It's a toss up between the Johnny Mercer/Margaret Whiting and Sammy Davis Jr./Carmen McRae, but there are many good versions of this song. Although, technically it's a cold-weather song, not a Christmas song. Regardless, it's fantastic to sing to and none of my guy friends are ever willing to sing it with me so my roommate and I take turns. : )
Celine Dion's "O Holy Night" is pretty amazing too. See, I can't decide!
Christmas Rain by Korby Lenker - it's a sad song set to a happy rhythm.
My very favorite is O Holy Night--Nat King Cole's version.
But I think just about every single Christmas song makes me smile!
My favorite isn't all that original, but I LOVE it.. David Phelps' version of O Holy Night!
The Little Drummer Boy by Faith Hill! The song reminds me of Christmas when I was a little girl way back when and Faith Hill is one of my favorite singers!
Chuck wanted to nominate the barking dogs that bark Jingle Bells, but he wan't sure of how to cite the artist.
This year's favorite for me (so far) is Anno Domine by Trans-Siberian Orchestra from their The Lost Christmas Eve CD. Very fun CD - we've had it a while & I've been listening to it again this season.
It's Cold Outside
-Tara Armstrong
The Christmas Song by the Waitresses
-Randi Van Vleck
