checking in

evidently, the falling of mom and dad's christmas tree was a premonition....

the storms hit last night, knocking power out to 1,000,000+ homes and businesses in the puget sound area. mom and dad had made the unfortunate decision to move home last night (from the hotel in gig harbor), because so many trees fell over the drive down to the house that they are trapped. and the power's out...again.

the worst was around midnight. viper was terrified, couldn't figure out exactly what to bark at. i ended up hiding bones underneath the covers of my bed, so the sounds were muffled and she was focused on other things than the snapping branches, rain, and wind.

all in all, waking up with dog bone crumbs in my bed isn't the worst thing. :)

the parents and the dogs are good, and the house in the harbor is still standing. mike's heading out there with a gas-powered chainsaw (note to self: an electric chainsaw is quite ineffective without electricity to run it) and is planning to cut them out from the fallen trees on the drive.

i'm holding down the fort at the office...it's quiet this morning. everyone's kids (for whom school was cancelled) are holed up in the conference room watching shrek on the big screen with surround sound...courtesy of supermom kris.

from king5 - the peak of high winds throughout the area last night -
  • Seattle (Sea-Tac) 69 mph 1:00 AM
  • Everett 66 mph 11:00 PM
  • Oak Harbor 66 mph 1:55 AM
  • North Bend 66 mph 8:11 PM NAS
  • Whidbey 64 mph 3:00 AM
  • Tacoma 58 mph 12:33 AM
  • Gig Harbor 58 mph 12:30 AM
  • Edgewood 58 mph 12:51 AM
  • Bellingham 55 mph 12:00 AM
current e.t.a. of electricity to mom and dad's house... 5-7 days.

i'm thinking they're moving back to the hotel. :)
