karto do ljubljana, prosim!

translation from slovenian:
one ticket to ljubljana, please!

yesterday, papa, mike and i ventured on our first-ever family business road trip. granted, it was only to portland, but it was an adventure...it was also where i heard the super fabulous news...

i have been invited to speak about the american cancer society's relay for life...in two weeks...in europe!

{incredibly huge, gigantic props to stella and vickie, who both gave me their blessing in leaving a day early to make my connecting flights overseas - leaving them with mom and dad in maui. i love you two - thank you!}

i'll be heading to ljubljana, slovenia and speaking to staff and volunteers from the slovenian union for health promotion and health education. thankfully, they speak english!! they're working to grow their relays in slovenia, and this will be a "relay 101" for them.

(and yes, i needed a map to determine that slovenia is between hungary, italy and croatia!)

the american cancer society partners with the union internationale contre le cancer (UICC) to train and support cancer leagues throughout the world in launching their own sustainable community-based relay for life programs, while increasing their visibility, generating cancer awareness, outreach, and income while building survivorship, volunteerism, and advocacy efforts in their communities.

so if i can handle the 12 hour jet lag from maui to europe and the transition from tropical to up in the alps, then i'll be painting ljubljana purple! :)
