The Simple Woman's Daybook

A slice of life right now...

• Outside My Window... everything is frosty.  It was cold on the farm last night, the chickens' water was frozen, and all the grass is crunchy.  Incredible sunrise over the farm with the frost glistening as the sun's rays came up over Mt. Rainier.  I love this place.
• I am thinking... of shopping lists.  I have moved my paper lists entirely to my blackberry...and I love it.  I always have an updated list with me, if I end up unexpectedly at Safeway or Costco, and rarely forget anything right now.  Just added?  2 40-pound bags of dog food and a bag of crushed oyster shells for the chickens. 
  
• I am thankful for... my husband.  He works long hours all week, and always comes home with a smile on his face, and occasionally, a fountain diet pepsi "because he thought I needed one".  
• From the kitchen... lots of goodness.  Up at 5 this morning, getting ready for a big week.  I made an awesome chicken noodle soup for lunch, focaccia is in the oven, beef stew is in the crockpot, chicken breasts are baked for recipes during the week, sweet potatoes are roasted, and we had tasty steel cut maple oatmeal for breakfast.  Now, if there was a kitchen fairy that wanted to do all the dishes, life would be complete.
• I am wearing... my pajamas and flip flops.  
• I am creating... I've been working like mad on Finian Road -- trying to get completely caught up before the weekend.  Lots of editing, culling, and getting ready to send out to clients.  Half a dozen shoots are in the mail today!
• I am going... to start packing for the Relay For Life Summit this weekend in Seattle.  I can't believe we're halfway through October!  
• I am reading... Cake Pops by Bakerella.  Frosting and cake mixes were buy one, get one free this weekend at Safeway, so I stocked up for the holidays...especially since the basic cake balls freeze so well.
• I am hoping... for lots of snow this year.  Thomas has new snowboots to match his snowsuit that I found at the Creme Brulee consignment sale last spring.  Everyone's saying to expect a snowy winter, and since I don't commute 85 miles a day anymore...bring it on!!
• I am hearing...nothing.  Pure silence.  It is heavenly.
• Around the house...  the kitchen is a mess, the master bedroom is painted (I love the color), but the house is clean.  And calm.
• One of my favorite things...  Seeing lots of open space in our bedroom.  We've been cleaning things out in a big way and it feels SO GOOD.
• A Few Plans For The Rest Of The Week...  A playdate today, cooking class tomorrow night, a newborn shoot on Wednesday, and the Relay Summit on Friday and Saturday.  Our first real week 'back in the real world'.  Adding Emergen-C raspberry shots to the morning.  :)
